September 17, 2015: Creative Dissent reception

The group gathered for the lecture & reception for Creative Dissent: Art of the Arab Uprisings at MIT Wolk Gallery in Cambridge.  A brief meeting was held after at MIT.

Meeting Synopsis:

The group is working on the By-Laws and will submit them to the national organization upon approval.

National Liaison Report: C. M. Judge reports: The Women’s Caucus for Art (WCA) is pleased to announce the recipients for the 2016 WCA Lifetime Achievement Awards: Tomie Arai, Helène Aylon, Sheila, Levrant de Bretteville, and Juana Guzman. The recipient for the 2016 President’s Art & Activism Award is Stephanie Sherman. The awards will be held at the National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA) on Thursday February 4, 2016 in Washington D.C. The event will include a cocktail reception (ticketed), 6–7:30pm, and a ceremony, 8–9:30pm (free and open to the public). Members are encouraged to make plans to attend the 2016 WCA conference in Washington, D.C. Information is available on the national website: http://www.nationalwca.org.

Discussion of upcoming exhibition opportunities: Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, VA; International Caucus Postcard show: Women Do It; Southern CA Chapter, “WATER: AN ESSENTIAL CONVERSATION”

It is noted that all Boston chapter members should expect to serve on the board at some point in time to share in the workload, in accordance with the group focus to foster connection & action and go deep rather than broad. Ideas sought for 2016/17 exhibitions; volunteers requested.
